NOVOROSSIISK, August 9 (Itar-Tass) - The captain of the tanker African Pride, arrested in Nigeria, was discharged from hospital on Monday and put back into custody, the mother of one of the sailors told Itar-Tass by telephone.

Valery Pakhomov, 65, was hospitalised last week with an outbreak of malaria, Lyudmila Kravtsova said.

'We have agreed with Russian medics living in Nigeria that when our seamen are released from prison, they will organize their thorough medical examination," Kravtsova said.

'Local Nigerian medics, educated in Russia, are also ready to help us," she added.

She also reported that 'all Russian seamen spend Monday in preparations for their release from prison".

Twelve Russian sailors who have been kept in custody on charges of smuggling oil from Nigeria are supposed to be out on bail on Tuesday following last Thursday's ruling of the Lagos Federal Court.

However, some formalities need to be carried out first, specifically the sailors must sign a letter of guarantees promising that none of them will leave Nigeria, will stay in the territory of the Russian embassy and show up at court hearings.

The lawyers of the Russian seamen and Russian embassy staffers spend Monday at the Lagos Federal Court finalizing the text of the letter of guarantees, the mother of Andrei Kravtsov said.
